Start out in 1st, rev slowly to ~4000 RPM, but do so by pressing the throttle quite a bit in a slow but steady move from the time of engagement to about 3000 RPM. Try this next time you have some time to practice. By that I mean you cut off the throttle while the car is still under heavy power loads, then you shift to the next gear and don’t match the same or greater power load when the clutch engages causing the car to lurch and or buck. One of the most common issues that causes rough shifts is when the driver throttles up through a gear and then shifts while still heavy on the throttle. Are there anyways to maximize acceleration + shifting smooth? I narrowed it down to, shift points, the amount of throttle during gear shifts, and the way I let of the clutch.Īlso, whats the best way to shift smoothly when redlining it? I know natural tendency is to dump the clutch when up shifting. Does this have anything to do with the way I let off the clutch? Shifting smooth is on and off for me, as I can't really narrow down why I suck at it (lol). However any shift between those numbers, and the car kind of jerks a bit. What I found was the car is silky smooth when I shift at low RPMS (1700) or higher rpms (2500). I know I shouldn't have gotten a BMW for my first manual car, but I was keen on learning manual and I dont' want to drive anything less than a 335i. Being my first manual car, I'm having a hard time shifting smooth. Before I actually picked up the car I had read alot of topics about the manual gearbox of the 335i.
